Midway, Utah was actually formed when two Mormon communities got together to build their houses into a fort during the Walker, Blackhawk Indian War. The residents of Upper Snake Creek and Lower Snake Creek both argued that the other community should relocate to their community because neither community had enough households to build the fort. They eventually settled on building the fort "Midway" between the two communities. After the war was over, the residents decided not to move back to the original communities and the settlement of Midway was established. The original settlers of the area were predominantly European, with significant Dutch, German and Swiss immigrants. The architecture still retains their influence.
