Sarah joined our family when she was five. After several family birthdays she was extremely frustrated that she hadn't had her own birthday, yet. Even our older daughters said that birthdays were never celebrated at their orphanages. Sarah couldn't figure out why she had to wait until December for her own birthday. As she was getting close to her tenth birthday, she asked her mother how you knew when your birthday was and that she had a friend who was actually BORN on her birthday! How lucky was THAT? It's funny the things you miss teaching when an older child joins your family.
