Quilting

When we visited Old Town San Diego, these two women were working on this beautiful quilt. It is a replica of one that was made in the same old Spanish home in the 1800s. When I asked why people during that time put so much time into making something so practical (sorry, it's the engineer in me) they told me, "Well, we could make lye soap, we could render lard, we could clean the house, or, we can sit around and visit with all of our friends while making this beautiful quilt!" Oh... Now I get it!
