Embroiderd names on uniforms

As recruits, the soldiers are not even allowed to use personal pronouns such as "I" or "me." They refer to themselves as "This Recruit" until they earn the right (after eight weeks or so) to be considered a person with a name and identity. One of the highlights of boot camp is when they get their names embroidered on their camis. It's like they are finally given an identity.
